COMMENTARY 1:1 Superscription The statement that this book contains the word of the Lord (1:1a) gives it an authority and power that contrast with the words of the false prophets who only pretend to deliver a message from God in order to deceive the people (2:11; 3:5, 8). Micah is identified as the author of this book. The date at which he prophesied is identified with reference to three kings of Judah (1:1b).
